A Few Foundation Repair Tips

If we are re-doing an interior surface such a patio or pool, the first thing to do is to remove the existing slab. This is usually the first step before we start on the basement or exterior wall framing. So the first steps are also budget related.

Concrete slabs can be made in many ways and require little to no heavy equipment. For small holes, we can use manual excavators and backhoes to make larger holes. Concrete contractors are used for Mudjacking. Mudjacking refers to lifting the mud excavator in the air to remove soil and ground debris. The floor of our new hole will be formed from the raised area.

Manual excavators are used for excavating because digging is done horizontally. This angle gives us a better view of the complete length of the foundation. We would have a square foot of horizontal excavation if we used backhoes. This is one-third the area we would expect from an excavator the size of a truck. With the extra square feet of floor area comes a greater need to raise the concrete slabs higher off the ground.

Required equipments

Another type of equipment is needed to make concrete leveling more efficient. Pre-blended cementitious and steel carvers are the most commonly used pieces of equipment for concrete grading. The steel carver is an elongated cylinder shaped piece of machinery used for heavy duty concrete cutting and the concrete slabs. It is usually set up in a rectangular position in order to cut concrete. The pre-blended cementitious, which is a thick, viscous paste pasteurized and frozen in place, is used to make a durable and tough paste.

This is an option good for areas having a large number of curves and gradients. The problem with using pre-blended cementitious is that it takes longer to set and is more costly than the standard cement. Pre-blended cementitious can be used if there is a large area that needs to be leveled. This paste can also be used if you desire a matte, smooth finish. For a flat, even surface, this paste can be used on freshly paved floors.

Another option is drilling holes vertically through the ground, and then constructing load-bearing walls. A hole is first punched through the soil, concrete mix underneath and a concrete cylinder is inserted. To make sure that the holes are drilled evenly, a layer of soil is put between the holes. This can also be done with pre-filled holes but you will not get a level result this way.

Rebar is one of the best options to repair foundations. The concrete mix is then placed in the holes and then rebar is added. The holes are then turned and the rebar is placed over and around them. This is a long-lasting and solid method of foundation repair. If the holes are shallow then rebar and concrete may just be placed directly on top of the holes.
